Welcome to Retroville

I have to admit that I do quite like Retro Style. Furniture, fashions and food from the fifties and sixties.

And there are quite a few likeable items in this shot. The upright lights, for example, cool and almost trendy.

Painted brick wall ... not so much.

Chaudet, Feeding Oedipus

It's been a while since we last featured some classic sculpture, so let's have something by Antoine-Denis Chaudet, tho' it was finished after his death by Pierre Cartellier.

Vroom Vroom

I was going to post something relevant to today's shock Brexit news...but I won't.

Instead, a combination of two of America's favourite things.

Cars and Parades.

And the sign seems to say "Branagan Vintage Car Club - Sponsored by Keith's Chevron." Except, that turns up nothing on Google. Branagan doesn't even seem to be a place name.

Mysterious.

Meanwhile, in a quiet part of ... umm ... Oslo?

It's an odd hobby I suppose.  Have a look as an old slide, and try and figure out where it was taken.

Here's there are very few clues - other thank the centre-left building having a sign saying Oslo O.

Which just might be a clue.

Bonus - today I learned about Stolperstein, and you should too.

The Jacob A Riis Memorial Stone

As you know, Jacob A Riis was an Danish-American social reformer, "muckraking" journalist and social documentary photographer.

He is memorialised by several places in the USA, but I have a suspicion that this memorial isn't in the good old US of A.

Bonus - Donald Trump postulated as a "Manchurian candidate"

The Thresher

Not to be confused with the USS Thresher, which is a whole other story.

No, this is an atmospheric slide of an Olde Tyme Agricultural Equipment demonstration, and frankly the light leakage marking add a whole other level of charm to the slide.

Bonus - From old time, to emergent technology. Environmentally friendly 'cremation'.
Mmmmm   Water.

Slugger Hendricks

Never seen the point of Baseball Or softball, or whatever. Basically it's just rounders.... a kids game.

Yet, America seems to love it.

Whatever.

Sunday Afternoon Drive

Looks like a grand day for a little drive in the countryside.

The observant amongst you will notice that there are three wive, and only two husbands. Well, there is a third husband, but he (Luigi Scarloni( was found to be cheating on Rosalita, and is currently tied up in the trunk. A drive into the country, and Badda-Bing...problem gone.

The Stealth Chickens

From playing with the brightness, contrast and gamma, I think this shows a lad petting a stealthy chicken, while another sneaks up behind him, ready to steal his wallet.

Alternatively, it's the Romania Police Fife and Drum Band, preparing for a summer holiday.

Anything is possible.

Local Flooding

Yes, it's another tedious slide, but it's topical.

My street suffered some minor flooding during an utter downpour this afternoon.

And this slide reminded me of it.

So THIS is what the well-dressed Mackerel-Botherer is wearing in (checks slide) September 1965.

Salt of the Earth

After yesterday formal and, frankly, upper class diners, let's celebrate these hard-working, plain-speaking sons of the soil.

Honestly, I could imagine that they were the original choice for models for American Gothic, but couldn't spare the time during harvest season.

Formal Dinner Party

Nice to see everyone formally dressed for a simple dinner party.

Actually, it could be a New Year's Eve Party, based upon the January 1965 date on the slide. I'm not sure whether Helga (on right, in black dress) is drunk, sleeping or dead, but she looks ready to keel over.

Bonus - What The Heck?
