Not In Kansas Anymore

Nope.  Not Kansas, obviously.

This is in fact Venice. The Gondolas are a giveaway, but the side view of St John's Cathedral is a surprise to many.

Rabbit or Duck

First time I glanced at this slide, I thought - It's a Duck.

Second time - It's a Rabbit.

Now I know.

...and .... I'm back in the room.

How Strange.

After a slide about Mysterious Corner, I disappear (mysteriously) for a week.

So, in honour of the cold wind and sunshine we're having here, here's a slide which was labelled "Snow and Cold 1 Nov 1950". It's from the Camp Koosharem set. Obviously.

Beauty Queens in Swimsuits

"Hubba Hubba" as da kidz are prone to say nowadays.

From the 1974 Miss St Petersburg set. And aren't they lovely?
Nice to see proper swimsuits rather than tacky bikinis.

1970 Navy Relief Carnival

From the look of those clouds, I'd estimate that this slide image was taken in San Diego (California.)

But I could be wrong.

Bonus - It's hard being a single father

Retro Transport Style

You'd have to be a top salesman to actually sell this item to Mrs Miller.

You could try the "Open Top, Low Insurance, Low Fuel Consumption" sales patter, but I'd still be amazed of the old trout bit at that offer.

Bonus - Angry Hedgehog becomes Happy Hedgehog.

The Weinberg's Party

A chance to meet Three Generations of Weinbergs.

Bonus - A long read, but well worth it. Especially if you fancy visiting the Pacific North West.

Is It A Bird ?

Yes.

I believe that is a bird.

...and from my extensive knowledge of NFL Teams, that might be a Northern Cardinal.

Bonus - Some of you will know that Airplane was a remake of (serious) movie Zero Hour. This video will show you how similar they were.

Four Men and a Shed

Four happy chaps, posing outside an old-fashioned shed.  Probably from the early 1960s, and possibly from Jersey.

So, why are they so happy?   They've just completed a shift of Coca Leaf Harvesting, and thanks to the "help-yourself" policy, they're as high as four kites.

Bonus - Burger King staff tricked into smashing outlet's windows 'to release pressure'

The Svithiod Seven

In this momentous year, the 136's anniversary of the founding of the Independent Order of Svithiod, its an appropriate time to mark the important role the Scandinavian Expatriates played in making America the country that it is today.

"The Snow Eddied and Whirled about the Men"

Curious, the things people take slides of.

Today, our photographer has captured a detailed reproduction of W.H.D. Koerner "The Snow Eddied and Whirled about the Men"

Bonus - Sadly, I heard of the death of Andy "Thuderclap" Newman.   He may be remembered as a One Hit Wonder, but what a One Hit. And the Album "Hollywood Dream" is rather good as well.

A Sunday on the Beach

Damn.  Just about to post an image that had already been done this year. Almost an unforgivable Faux Pas !  So, here's some healthy american teens, enjoying a day at the beach.

Excellent colours, courtesy of Kodachome.

The Estonian Cheetah

Finally, a slide with a bit of information.

This slide from 1964 shows one of the few remaining (at the time) Estonian Cheetah, and her cub.

Despite the name, the Estonian Cheetah could be found in Latvia and Poland as well as the obvious colony in Estonia. Pressures from Blueberry Cultivation have affected numbers, and since 2003, there have been no confirmed sightings. :-(
