Big Bucking Bunny

Rather a damaged slide, I'm afraid, with a lot of dust / mold that wouldn't rub off. Sorry.

But what an image !  A brace of brave boys, bareback on a big bucking buck bunny.

I suspect that this dates from the very early sixties, and could be from Hulstead's Wall Drug Store, as featured in this early blog post. Heavens - was that really two years ago?

Bonus - Brian Blessed advertises Japp bar ?

Reeds in the Stream

You know...just last night I was thinking last night, there's a lot we can learn from these reeds. They grab a small patch of soil, and grow slowly. They take their chances when the sun shines, and when it's wet, they just sit and wait it out. The stream may be fast flowing, but this clump has patience, and just lets the world flow past.

Until some cow wades in and eats them.

Bonus - for the gentlemen, I think. Work that bra !

Bonus 2 - Art on the moon  Interesting !

Ummmm.... A Musical Instrument ??

Maybe.  Maybe not.

From the same box of slides as a Monorail, so might be a Disneyworld attraction, but I'm typically short of information.

Bonus - The REAL story of Pooh

Steuben's National

Usually when there's some interesting text in a slide, a quick Google will reveal a wealth of info, giving a clue about the subject.

This time, "Steuben's National", as seen of the cheerleader's sash, reveals basically nothing. Perhaps related to the one of the towns of Steuben in the USA.  Perhaps somewhere else, named after Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben.

So, we just have to get clues from the slide itself.  An all-girls high school. Clothes suggest mid 1970's to me.

Bonus - Fascinating - Hungarian Communist Micro-Cars

Half Way To / From Christmas Eve

Yeah, seems like a long time since I posted a Xmas shot, and indeed, since a "weird kids" slide.

Two birds, one shot. Result.    The Patterson Family wrap up warm, and prepare for an evening of shooting the "undesirables." in the neighborhood.

Bonus one - Continuing the Seasonal Theme - Time Lapse snowfall

Bonus two - just liked this

Amalgamated Widgets Inc

Hi !  We're the Customer Service Team from Amalgamated Widgets.

There's something likable about work-place photos. Perhaps it's the contrast to modern offices that makes them special. Typewriters not PCs, offices not cubicles, fans rather than ineffective air-con.   Nice.

Bonus - Things to do with old aircraft

Shihmen Reservoir

Hmmm. The highlight of any trip to Taiwan. The map of Shihmen Reservoir.

Unmissable.

Quite possibly our first slide from Kingston Upon Thames, this view of a floor at The Bentall Centre. (A shopping complex of some repute !)

Umm.    Nothing more interesting to say, really.

Bring On The Dancing Girls

Excellent. The weather here started off gloomy, but it's getting better. ;o)

Perfect weather to slip on a pair of fishnets, a spangly leotard and some slingbacks, and go dancing in the park.

...No...not me!   These delightful ladies.   Obviously.

Fashion Tips for Insecure Men

Today, Todd is wearing Rupert Bear trousers, topped with a contrasting black cardigan, surmounted by an impossibly coiffured "crash-helmet" hairstyle complemented by 1970's sideburns.

Toby is wearing suspiciously long hair over a monkey shit brown cord sports jacket, for that "Trainee Hip Geography Teacher" look.

Bonus : For Reb - Kung Fu Bear.  Some Info

Bonus 2 - Seriously ??

Thanksgiving 1989

Well, that's what was written on the slide. However, it seems to be just two duffers chatting.

On the left, Simon Horowicz, the former Quarterback for the Al Bundy High School Football Team.

On the right, Alf "Tiger" Wanger, formerly of the Women' Auxiliary Navy Clerical Staff.  (A recruiting sergeant error, he claims.)

Bonus : Zak McFlimby explains it.

Bonus 2 - I laughed at this. Does that make me evil?

...or some other arty-farty title.

Actually, I'm being unfair, this ain't too bad a shot. It deserves far better than demotion to Tedious Tuesday.

Asymmetric Boy's Girlfriend

Oops. Almost missed today's post deadline.

Footy Frenzy

Finally, the 2010 World Cup is here, and oh boy, am I excited. Engerland have a marvelous chance to do as well as they usually do - through the Group Stages and then out once they face reasonable sides.

So, I thought I'd post something vaguely appropriate - spotty English teenagers, kicking about a football on a patch of dust.

Sensible Corner. There seems to be an outburst of anti-USA stuff in the newspapers at the moment. Surely this couldn't be related to tomorrow's England v USA footie match, and some lingering resentment from the past??

Engineer's Corner. The anti-BP rhetoric regarding the Deepwater Horizon, reminds me of the Petrobas P-36 event. This PPT slide show is interesting and food for thought to all cost-cutters. Win-Win !

Edit : OK today's post is a little serious, so lets add in this WTF gif

Strangely Asymmetric

An odd picture this. Young lad staring straight at the camera, and what I notice is his asymmetric mouth and nose.   A pugilst perhaps.

So, I thought I'd  see what his face was like if symmetric?

On the left - Frankie Muniz.   On the right...ummm....any suggestions ?

Bonus - NYPD - Blue?

Mad Uncle Ken

I suspect that some of you, loyal visitors, just come here to gawp at the slackers, nutters, freaks, weirdos, oddballs, misfits, loonies and dipsticks.

Meet Uncle Ken.

He lives in that van, dining on roadkill and critters. In the evening, he likes nothing more that a bit of posing on his plinth. Next year, he plans to depose Barack Obama by defeating him in a race to Dead Dog Farm and back.

Bonus - Speaking of white vans.... some jet ski shenanigans

Phoebe

Anyone else remember the mid 70's fashion for "Weeping Child" paintings ? Anyone recall the curse stories?  People would buy these horrible artworks, and find that their house would burn down. Or their wife would leave the. Or their cat would catch rabies. Or maybe their neighbours' au-pair would break a tea cup.

This painting of or by Phoebe seems to fit in that genre. And, spookily, since owning this slide I have developed a fondness for Danish Blue cheese !  The curse works in mysterious ways.

Bonus - Zero-carbon, tax exempt sportscar.

Bonus 2 - NO !   Do Not Want !

A bit of a surprise here. A rather relaxing, competent, family-free shot today.

Farmer Mart, outside Goodman & Jester

A nice little slice of everyday life. Looks like some local farmers are selling their produce at an impromptu farmers' mart, on a pleasant sunny spring morning.

Goodman & Jesters - Google suggests it was a department store in Columbus Ohio, and by the look of the cars, this was taken in the mid-to-late 1950's.

Nice.

Bonus - Tortoise finds Soulmate
